Capstone Day 2

Despite waking up with slightly wet sleeping bags, our first full day was super fun!

We started by sleeping in and waking up to the noise of rain on the tent and a mud filled campsite, but after driving over to get some firewood from the main campsite we were able to start a fire to make some breakfast. During this time we also raced to get spots for senior serve at Gale Woods Farm (we got them yay) with our limited service in the woods. After breakfast we drive over to the main campground to use the bathrooms with running water to brush our teeth and get ready for the day. We also tried to check in at the office but they were closed, and then happened to be closed the next three times we checked.

After breakfast we started getting ready for a day of adventures and a hike to the Hidden Falls but first we had to address how to dry the wet sleeping bags. We ended up hanging them on a close line and that worked well! Once we were dressed and our wet gear had been dealt with we packed a lunch and headed out. The hike we took to the Hidden Falls had a trail head right near our campsite and was about a 2 mile hike in total so not bad. After a pretty chill hike that was surprisingly dry and flat, we got to the falls and they were flowing fast from all the rain. We decided take the trail back to the main campground to explore and eat lunch. We settled in at a picnic table in the sun and enjoyed our lunch of hamburger buns with peanut butter and chips and avocado. Then we explored the camp ground a bit and took the trail back to the cart-in campsites.

Once we got back to our campsite we hung out and updated our notebook with the leaves we had collected and did some water color painting. We then struggled again to start a fire as everything was still wet so we didn't have any good kindling. After it was started though we got it hot enough to cook dinner. I'd say this was one of my top 2 dinner the entire trip, we had tricolor pasta with cooked veggies and pesto, a delicious combo. Along with some warm tea it was almost a 10/10 dinner I'd say. Then we sat around the fire and chatted for a bit before making some smores with our fudge stripped cookies. Then we put our fire out and got ready for bed.
