Capstone Day 7

May 27th was our last full day! It had rained all night and everything was wet, our sleeping bags, blankets, and even duffle bags with our clothes. We started our the morning by making a fire (luckily we had put our wood under the table the night before so it wasn't too wet). Ands then for breakfast we made croissants and veggie eggs again, and again they were delicious. After we ate we cleaned up a bit and got ready with our rain jackets on and our Chacos (Ella) and Teva hiking boots (me). We were headed to a hike on the Minnesota River Bluff trail but ended up seeing the bison right by the road entrance so we went to look at them for a bit first.

Upper Falls

After seeing the bison we started our little hike just planning to go to the lookout and turn around, but instead we were having such a good hike and had made it to a map where we realized we were far past that lookout but we still decided to keep going a bit further and do a little loop then hike back to the car. After this we admired the bison some more and made our way to the falls. Since it was Tuesday and rainy we had the falls pretty much all to ourselves and only saw a couple other people. Right away we climbed down under the bridge to some rocks right above the taller falls and sat down to enjoy our snack of nectarines and crackers

Ella then patiently waited while I climbed around the rocks and tree trunks by the upper falls (I was searching through the little rocks and shells). After that we went back to our campsite to set up our last fire and start packing up camp since everything was wet so we decided to leave a day early. I started making a fire (teepee style) and it surprisingly worked really well and was able to be big enough and hot enough to cook food yay! While I was doing that Ella had been packing up the car and cleaning up the site a bit.

I then made dinner and we had some mashed potatoes with plant based meatballs and it was super tasty. We also had some cinnamon rolls left so we used those for our dessert. Then we finished the night by doing dishes, organizing cooler, throwing trash, and loading the car. After this we headed our and stopped at target on our way home. We didn't get back until late at night but the shower that night was still amazing.
