Capstone Day 3

Climbing over a fallen tree

On our third day on the trip, May 23rd, I started by waking up to Ella already up and moving. She had refilled our water jug for dishes and was starting the fire so we could make breakfast. Of all our breakfasts on the trip, this one was one of the best. It consisted of veggie eggs, chocolate croissants (made over a fire!), and a yummy fruit mix. We did burn one side of our croissants just a tiny bit but they were still amazing. After breakfast we cleaned up, got ready, and once again hung a wet sleeping bag on our clothes line.

Now that we were dressed, fed, and ready we decided to go on a hike that was a 1.5 mile loop, seems pretty easy right... well it was definitely an adventure. Because the trail to hidden falls had been so clear the day before we expected this trail to be similar but it was not dry at all. It was mucky and wet the whole loop and there were lots of trees down that we had to climb over or under. This was a perfect test for my hiking boots (they passed!).

After the Maple Loop (the muddy one) we walked to the main campground and were finally able to check in and visit the office before heading back out to hike to the falls. This portion of the trails was definitely more flat and dry than that morning. Once we got to the falls we found a little bench and sat down to have our lunch of hotdog buns with peanut butter and banana, and our hummus and veggies. I'd say it was a solid meal plus there was a golden retriever that was adorable and swimming in the falls.

Once we finished up lunch we hiked the Beaver Trail back to the cart-in campsites to chill for the night. At the end of our hike we started plotting summer jobs for the next few summers in Oregon and we sat talking about overnight camps for a while. Then eventually we started a fire and organized our site for dinner. Our dinner this night was the most typical camping where we had veggie dogs and salad. Then we kept feeding the fire as it was our last night and then sat and chatted for a while. We then made some dessert pancakes and enjoyed the view of the stars.
